BURREN ROCKS HORIZONTAL, Short
A SHORTER HORIZONTAL EXPERIENCE
EXPERIENCED, QUALIFIED, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF
On this half day walk we pass through the landscape as used by current Burren Farmers, the “winterage” farmland near Poulacarren is fertile and rich in wild flowers.
For the winter months the cattle graze these areas and are then moved to the summer pastures. This form of farming is what allows the rich bio diversity of the Burren to thrive. The link below explains this and how it is being continued.
We move higher and start to encounter remains of the earlier farmers who moved into the Burren over 5500 years ago. ancient boundaries, field walls, hut sites and small clochans. As we reach the high point of this walk we find ourselves surrounded on all sides by ancient monuments, Megalithic tombs Standing stones and Cairns. On the final leg we stop at a cliff edge fort passing through heavy hazel scrub forest to view the Poulacarran Turlough, then return to the start.
This walk covers a wide range of interesting features, views and depending on the time of year a great variety of flowers.
You can be assured that your Burren Rocks adventure will be lead by people who are fully qualified as recommended by the relevant governing body. The ratios we set for ourselves are better than required, again to ensure a quality safe environment for all our activities.
